Young Adults and Postsecondary Education

Weissman has over ten years of experience at MDRC, directing projects, providing technical assistance, conducting qualitative research, and disseminating findings in a wide range of social policy settings. His current work is primarily focused in the area of education, helping to better understand ways to improve college access, persistence, and success for low-income and underprepared students. Some of Weissman’s current projects include the Learning Communities Demonstration, a multisite evaluation of the effects of linking and contextualizing developmental education with other courses; the Texas Developmental Summer Bridge Study, which is testing the impacts of short, intensive, summer programs on reducing the need for remedial education; and Aid Success, which seeks to improve financial aid information and delivery with the goal of increasing student persistence and success. He has also played key roles in providing technical assistance, designing and launching evaluations, and conducting qualitative research in a range of other social policy areas, including early childhood education, job training and parenting programs for noncustodial parents, public housing, and welfare employment programs.
