Visher joined MDRC as a Senior Associate in 2007, bringing two decades of experience in public policy research in education (K-12 as well as postsecondary), workforce development, adult education, and welfare. At MDRC, Visher works on several projects in the Young Adults and Postsecondary Education policy area, including Opening Doors, Achieving the Dream, and the National Center on Postsecondary Research (NCPR). For NCPR, she serves as the project director for the Learning Communities Demonstration, a six-site experiment testing the impact of learning communities on student outcomes. She also leads an impact study of a mentoring program at one of the Achieving Dream community colleges. For MDRC’s K-12 policy area, Visher leads an implementation evaluation of the National Academy Foundation’s new academies of engineering. Visher most recently worked at MPR Associates, Inc., as Director of Evaluation, where she oversaw all evaluation-related projects in elementary, secondary, and postsecondary areas. Prior to MPR Associates, Visher worked at two research organizations in Norway, Berkeley Planning Associates, SRI International, Abt Associates, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare. She holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
